What this site covers
Segre Radio covers Spanish-language music now — who is making it, where the forms come from, and how it is counted.
Bad Bunny held Spotify’s most-streamed artist position in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and never recorded an album in English. That is the fact the rest of this site follows from. The pages here take the artists with work out now, the forms those records are built on, the bodies that issue the numbers, the business that moves the music between Spain and the Américas, and the recordings that made all of it possible.
How it is organised
- Current Records — The artists with work out now — what they released, where it charted, and what the record means.
- Riddims & Palos — Where the genres actually come from — the dembow riddim, the Sinaloa lineage, flamenco's named forms, bachata, and the Madrid scene.
- Who Counts — How the music is measured — Billboard, Promusicae, AMPROFON, Spotify's Loud & Clear, and the Latin Grammys.
- Spain & Américas — The business of Spanish-language music — labels, rights, touring economics, and the major festivals.
- Before Streaming — The forms and figures that made the present possible — nueva canción, the Movida, Camarón, salsa in New York, and the late-90s crossover.
The archive lists all twenty-nine pieces in one place.
Numbers and names
Every chart position, certification and award appears with the body that issued it, inside the sentence: entered the Billboard 200 at number one in March 2023, per Billboard. Figures that go stale carry the date they were taken. The site is written in English; Spanish appears in titles, artist names and genre terms — palo, tumbado, compás — each glossed in English the first time it appears.
